Connect To Your Internal GPS


I noticed quite some time ago that there is a presence within me and I guess it’s what some call the spirit, the soul or the witness.  It seems to have the ability to observe the commotions and challenges, yet not get involved.  It hears the negative self-talk the mind loves to lament on, however the words have no power.  The witness is far too clever to believe anything that is self-defeating.

This presence seems wise and unattached.

I think the first time I ‘consciously’ connected with this presence I was practicing mirror work, which is an exercise Louise L Hay often spoke about.   At the time I was looking in the mirror, right into my eyes.  Something occurred where I looked past my pupils.  I felt, more than I saw something, which I can’t quite explain.  It was like it flickered within me and there was recognition.  Over the years I’ve felt this presence more often than not.

Have you experienced these same sensations?  Have you felt like you too, connect with something other than your mind and body?

Whether you believe in this presence or you see it differently.  Maybe to you, it’s more about feeling present and connected.  It doesn’t really matter.  I have a feeling they all give us similar results, a deeper sense of happiness and a more aware and inspired way of life.

Do you wish to connect with your spirit more or do you long to experience a deeper sense of happiness? Is your intention to feel more empowered or to simply feel good enough?

If you haven’t already, why not try mirror work?

For seven days stand in front of the mirror

Get close enough, so you can see your reflection in your pupils

Take a moment to breathe and notice anything that arises

Allow it to be

Then begin to speak to yourself either in your mind or out loud.

You could say things like…

Hello (name)

I’d love to get to know you

I’m willing to love you

You’re doing an amazing job

I’m sorry

I forgive you

You’ve got this!

You could imagine communicating with other people by saying things like…

I wish you’d said you loved me

I wish I’d had more time with you

I’m sorry

Please forgive me

I love you

At first this practice might feel weird.  You may feel angry, sad or silly.  Let these emotions surface, breathe and honor what shows up.  How often have you pushed your feelings aside and carried on?  Take your time and be kind to yourself.

Spend a few minutes each day, the more you put in, the more you’ll receive.  Consistency is key.

Notice any changes that take place, either within you or externally.  As you deepen your connection with yourself, you connect more with those around you.  As you’re more loving to yourself, you’re more loving to others.
